The Screen Actors Guild – SAG, is an American labor union; established in 1933, to enhance the working conditions of actors and actresses. SAG has a membership of nearly 120,000 principal performers who work in motion pictures, television, commercials, industrials, video games, internet and all new media formats. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers – AMPTP, is a trade association responsible for negotiating virtually all of the industry-wide guild and union contracts. The Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA, is a business and trade association whose goal is to advance the business interests of movie studios. The MPAA administers the voluntary but dominant MPAA film rating system. As part of its campaign to stop copyright infringement, the MPAA is fighting to stop the sharing of copyrighted works via peer-to-peer file-sharing networks. The MPAA's anti-piracy campaign has gained much publicity and criticism. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – Oscars and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – EMMY’s, are professional honorary organizations dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences in motion pictures and television. The American Film Institute – AFI, is a national organization that provides leadership in screen education and the recognition and celebration of excellence in the art of film, television and digital media. The Society of Motion Pictures & TV Engineers – SMPTE, is an international professional association of engineers working in the motion imaging industries. They are an internationally recognized standards developing organization, that has over 400 standards, Recommended Practices and Engineering Guidelines for television, motion pictures, digital cinema, audio and medical imaging.
